Are you struggling with teeth that are crooked or crowded? If you’re dreaming of a straighter smile that boosts your confidence, dental braces can help. Braces are orthodontic devices that help align and straighten your teeth, improving your bite and enhancing your overall oral health. They consist of different components, all working together to gradually shift your teeth into their desired positions over a period of time.

At Purity Dental, we help our patients get straighter, healthier smiles using advanced orthodontics and custom-fitted braces. Our dentists are equipped with years of experience, allowing us to work on your smile and give you the best solution for straighter teeth.

Our dental braces and other orthodontic appliances are a great way to straighten a crooked or misaligned smile. They work by consistently placing pressure on your teeth to move them into the ideal position. As your bite changes, you’ll have to come in for follow-up appointments to have your braces tightened.

Ever thought braces are just for kids? This treatment is suitable for patients of all ages (in fact, adults show some of the best success rates). Here are just a few of the most obvious signs that you may need braces:

  • list icon Crowded / Crooked teeth
  • list icon Gaps between teeth
  • list icon Overbite / Underbite / Crossbite
  • list icon Poorly positioned jaws / TMJ Disorder

As far as advantages are concerned, you can expect much more than an aesthetically pleasing smile! These are some of the ways choosing braces will help you:

  • list icon Teeth are easier to clean, reducing your risk of tooth decay & gum disease
  • list icon Lowered risk of bad breath
  • list icon Less stress placed on your jaw joint
  • list icon Better ability to chew food and speak
  • list icon Less chance of wearing down your enamel
  • list iconImproves confidence
  • list icon Contributes to long-term oral health
  • list icon Resolves pain, headaches, ear aches and insomnia that misaligned teeth can cause
  • list icon Reduces the risk of dental injuries

Looking for a straighter and more beautiful smile?

We have 3 main types of braces available, depending on the severity of your needs, budget and lifestyle.

  • list iconMetal Braces
This traditional method uses metal braces and wires, and is the most affordable type of brace. Over the years, the wires have gotten noticeably more subtle in appearance.
  • list iconClear Aligners
Unlike other braces, Clear Aligners are transparent, removable plastic aligners that should be replaced every few weeks. However, this treatment is only valid for teens and adults with mild orthodontic conditions.
  • list iconClear Braces
Designed similarly to metal braces, the wires used in clear braces match the colour of your teeth, or are clear.

  • list icon In your initial consultation, dental x-rays and impressions of your mouth will be taken in order to design perfectly-fitted braces for your teeth.
  • list icon In your next “bonding” appointment, the metal brackets will be precisely attached and positioned onto your teeth. This will take roughly 2 hours.
  • list icon A device will be used to keep your mouth dry while your braces are attached to your teeth using an adhesive that is bonded using a curing light.
  • list icon The archwire will then be placed by our dentist through the braces and held together using ligature bands.
  • list icon You will have to attend follow-up appointments, roughly every 4 to 8 weeks, to get your braces adjusted as your smile changes.

For simpler cases, Treatment typically takes around 12-24 months. However, straighter teeth can be achieved in as little as 6 months while more complex cases can take up to 3 years.

How do you take care of your braces?
Firstly, daily flossing and brushing after each meal using fluoride toothpaste is very important as food particles get easily stuck in the wires. Our dentist will help outline how to efficiently brush and floss your teeth and clean around your braces during your appointment. We recommend avoiding sugary, sticky or hard foods that will easily get caught in your braces and will be hard to remove.

If you take part in sports, we do recommend investing in a mouthguard to prevent any abrasions. We offer custom-fitted mouthguards at Purity Dental, so feel free to bring this up with our dental practitioners if you feel like you may need one. Once your treatment period is over, you will have a fixed retainer wire, and a removable retainer for nighttime wear. You’ll be able to enjoy all the perks and confidence of a straighter smile with braces from Purity Dental.

Remember, you may experience pain and discomfort immediately after getting your braces. However, with time, you will get used to the sensation of having braces in your mouth. Here are some things you can do to alleviate temporary pain from braces:

  • list iconTake over-the-counter pain medicine as recommended by our dentist.
  • list iconEat soft food like soups, smoothies or mashed potato for about a week.
  • list iconPlace a cold compress outside your cheeks or mouth.
  • list iconBrush your teeth very gently.
  • list iconGargle with warm salty water. This helps heal any sores in your mouth.
