What is a smile makeover?
A smile makeover is a process where we utilise any number of dental procedures to create a natural and more beautiful smile. Whilst this is often done with cosmetic appearances in mind, it can often help to also improve the function of your teeth.
What can a smile makeover fix?
Smile makeovers can be used to address a wide range of dental issues, such as:
- Crooked or misaligned teeth
- Broken down or cracked teeth
- Missing teeth
- Discoloured teeth or fillings
- Misshapen teeth
- Gummy smiles
- Worn down teeth
How to get started with a smile makeover?
The best way to get started is to come in for an initial consultation appointment so that your smile makeover can be personalised to suit your goals, desired result, budget and time-frame.
A comprehensive dental examination will be required to create a personalised plan and to assess your current oral health. This could include dental x-rays and digital photos and scans of your teeth. Additional consultation appointments may also be necessary.
Your new smile could even be previewed with use of:
- Composite bonding mock-up – Composite filling material can be temporarily bonded to your teeth so that you can get an idea of what your new smile will look like
- Digital smile design (DSD) – DSD can be used by your dentist to help plan your smile makeover plan, but can also give you a preview to what your smile could look like.
Once your customised smile makeover plan has been thoroughly discussed with you, it’ll be time to get started!
What is involved in a smile makeover?
Everyone’s individual smile makeover plan can be different, so a different combination of dental procedures may need to be used to achieve your goals.
Typical procedures that may be involved include:
- Tooth whitening
- Composite resin fillings
- Crowns, bridges and veneers
- Dental implants
- Orthodontic treatment, such as braces and invisalign
- Gum lift or re-contouring
How long does it take to get my new smile?
The time it takes to get your new smile can vary, depending on how many procedures are required to achieve your desired result. This can range from a single appointment involving tooth whitening to several appointments involving a combination of dental procedures. Your dentist can discuss with you about approximate time frames.
How long will my new smile last?
This could vary quite a lot, depending on what procedures are involved in your smile makeover. If your smile makeover involves just tooth whitening, how long your teeth remain brighter will depend on your diet and other factors. If it involves the use of procedures such as crowns, bridges and implants, it could vary depending on how well your oral health is maintained. Your dentist will discuss your individual case with you to help maximise the life of your new smile.
