Relaxation Dentistry: Oral Sedation Helps Curb the Fear of Dental Care
Does the idea of going to the dentist make you feel nervous? Or worse, does it make you avoid going to the dentist at all? At Purity Dental, we know not everyone looks forward to their next dental checkup. That’s why we’ve invested resources to help curb dental anxiety and improve the overall experience or our patients.
Am I A Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
There are a number of situations where dental sedation is appropriate. Here are just a few:
- Mild to severe anxiety related to dental treatment
- A lengthy or complex procedure that needs to be performed
- Oral surgery, such as wisdom tooth removal or implant placement
- Negative past experiences in a dental office
- Age, behavioural, or health needs of the patient
If you’re considering asking a dentist about sedation because of your anxiety, rest assured that you’re not the first. At Purity Dental, our Mulgrave dentists offer sedation for a number of different reasons. If you feel this is something that could help you get the care you deserve, or you’re even if you’re just slightly anxious about a particular treatment, we invite you to request more information!
How it Works
Purity Dental uses oral sedation to help our patients relax during their appointment, but not be completely “asleep.” While you’ll be able to answer simple questions and directions (such as, “Can you feel this?” or “Open wide”) you probably won’t remember much, if anything, about the procedure. That’s because oral sedation also has an amnesic effect caused by the medication that’s used.
Helping You Get the Care You Need
Sometimes dental anxiety isn’t because of fear of the dentist, but rather because you don’t have the information you need about a particular treatment. We’re happy to walk you through the process and explain each procedure, so that you can make an educated choice about the future of your smile. Call our Mulgrave office today!
